Learning Outcomes: Becoming a Mindful School

Who should complete this course?

School Leaders and others who have a responsibility for infusing the Habits of Mind into the culture of school and sustaining this work.

This course is particularly supportive when taken in conjunction with, or immediately following, face to face professional learning such as the Mindfulness by Design conference. Click on the post-it note to find professional developers who are certified by the Institute for Habits of Mind. Or look at the Professional Learning Calendar under the Further Learning menu item above.

Prior Learning

You should have a sound understanding of the Habits of Mind. It is not necessary that you have completed courses 3 & 4. 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you will have:

  • Built significant connections and professional networks with other like minded schools
  • Generated an understanding of the qualities of a Mindful School, including:
    • Mindful Environment
    • Mindful Curriculum and Assessment
    • Mindful Community
    • Mindful Policies and Procedures
  • made significant steps along the process of being certified as a Mindful School by the Institute for Habits of Mind

Throughout these courses it is highly recommended that you have a copy of the two most recent books edited by Art Costa and Bena Kallick. These are:

A private Virtual Classroom is provided for teachers subscribing to this course. It contains directed discussions, and additional support material. There is also the possibility to have a mentored classroom for this course.The Habits of Mind Resource Library contains a wealth of classroom examples, activities and other resources relevant to this course.
